While driving into work this morning, the radio station to which I frequently listen, held a discussion on whether or not a porn star could be a good mom. Some of the morning crew felt that you could not be a good mom, as you get caught up in a pornography lifestyle, which in turn, affects all other areas of your life. Some of the others felt you could participate in pornographic activities and be a good mom. A girl called in who stated that she was 24 years old, had 4 children and had recently become an internet “porn star” and had plans to broaden her horizons (to DVDs I suppose). She said she was a Christian and felt she was a good mom. I was a bit dumbfounded to say the least. I believe God is clear in His Word about being involved in promiscuous and sexual acts outside of marriage and what the consequences of those actions will be. When we become Christians, we set aside our old ways and conform to a new way of life. I do realize there are slips and times that we must ask for forgiveness for our sin, but is your conscience not pricked when you purposefully and willingly participate in those things that you know are not Christ-like? Unfortunately, I was not able to hear whether her internet pornography forays were with her spouse (if she has one) or with other men. I would venture to say that since she was earning income from these activities, the acts were with other men and/or women.
In my own thought processes, I took it a few steps further. Do other Christians consider it a sin if you participate in sexual acts with your spouse and post them on the internet? Is this being judgmental? Does God consider it a sin if you participate in sexual acts with your spouse and post them on the internet? Do these activities make you a bad parent? If you participate in pornographic acts with someone who is not your spouse, does this make you a bad parent? Can you maintain your Christianity and relationship with God and be a “porn star”, knowing that being such requires you to participate in sexual acts with someone other than your spouse?....Knowing that these acts are sin and that sin separates us from God?

I really feel sorry for people who will never know Jesus because they are too hung up on what some Christians are doing. This is exactly what Satan wants us to do. 1 Peter 5:8 tells us to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” You will never be set free until you ask Jesus to come into your life. You can follow Oprah, Tom Cruise or even Brad Pitt it you want but there is only one way to salvation and that is Jesus. In John 14:6 Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." As far as the Bible being XXXX, is that supposed to be a joke? You forgot homosexuality and sodomy as well. Please, I read the Old Testament and can’t recall any graphic or pornographic descriptions of the things mention in your comment. Yes a lot of those things did happen but were transcribed in a decent manner without out going into graphic details. A lot of them were also examples of what not to do and if you read the rest of the story you would know that God dealt very harshly with these people. Just read about Sodom and Gomorrah. But I do sympathize with you. I used to feel the same way until I hit rock bottom and wanted to die. I tried everything else but Jesus was the only way to turn my life around. One day you will need him; there will be times in all our lives when we have no one else to call on. Hopefully it won’t be too late.
Now Margo sorry for the lengthy comment but I feel I need to answer some of these questions. Besides I basically have the next two months off from work and this will keep from surfing for porn on the net (just kiddin)
Do other Christians consider it a sin if you participate in sexual acts with your spouse and post them on the internet? I do, because it would cause other people who view it to lust and covet someone else wife or husband. Also something about causing your brother to stumble. Sounds kinky but not Christ like. I don’t think God would approve. And yes the loose morals would probably make a bad parent.
Can you maintain your Christianity and relationship with God and be a “porn star”, knowing that being such requires you to participate in sexual acts with someone other than your spouse. The answer again is NO! You hit the nail on the head with “these acts are sin and that sin separates us from God?” I saw an E True Hollywood Story on Jena Jamison and she even believes that since she was a good person that her profession wouldn’t matter to God but she is sadly mistaken just like the other Celebs I mention. Each one either thinks there is another way to God or doesn’t believe in him at all. Good thought and discussion provoking post.
I thank the poster that pointed out I forgot to list homosexuality and sodomy. Was that by design? I'm just saying, Margo!
A little more fuel for the fires of hell -- God allowed multiple wives. Check out the story of Abraham! God allowed slavery. The man after God's own heart, King David, was a murderer, an adulterer with a lustful eye all of his life. Read your Bible at how they finally knew he was dead! I can relate to this guy. LOL
Is watching or being an employee of the porn industry any different than being a deacon that gossips? Or a choir member that has a drug problem? My Bible says you can commit adultery with your thoughts and murder with your words. Who knows the heart of men? Wicked are his thoughts all the days.
Our BEST righteous deeds are as filthy rags to Him. Yet we judge people on their deeds FOR God and your own deeds are just as filthy. The Bible is clear, just one lie and you are a sinner for life. There are no bigger or smaller sinners. You are either guilty or not guilty! Now that does not mean if you are overweight you are not a bigger sinner! That's for another blog (overweight Christians who point fingers at healthy, fit porn stars .... Shame, shame!)
You are either in or out of Grace. You people are talking Grace as if you’re the judge. You are talking about sanctification not Grace. Now I'm being a little loose and tongue in cheek with my talking points but its to stir the blog talk. Consider me a voice crying in the wilderness "Repent first you Christians and get right your perspectives." It is still about loving your neighbor not judging right?
Don't judge unless you want to be judged in like manner. I am schooled in theology and I'm fully aware I'm taking liberty with some views to draw thoughts where other means wouldn't. So spare me any righteous diatribes about my views. You don't really now them. Stick to my point that the Bible has themes in stories that would put the best pornographic movie to shame!!! Now if that doesn’t get people to researching their Bible I don’t know what will.
For the poster that pointed out I missed a whole section of pornographic themes in sodomy and homosexuality, I have masturbation and oral sex I would like to add to the list! LOL and the 4X is one step closer to 5X.
Please stay focused here people. Respond about what I wrote not what you read. Put your emotions to the side and think through this. This isn't church. This isn't a Bible study. This is a discussion about whether or not a person that lives in sin be a Christian. Judge your own life and see if your sins are any heavier than another person’s. Can an alcoholic be a Christian? Can a person with a drug problem be a Christian? Can a gossiper? What about someone that has a lustful eye? I'm just saying, even Margo must have something secret she wouldn't want church folks to know. I'm just saying, I wish I knew her. Maybe she's a sinner like me? LOL
1 : the depiction of erotic behavior (as in pictures or writing) intended to cause sexual excitement
2 : material (as books or a photograph) that depicts erotic behavior and is intended to cause sexual excitement
3 : the depiction of acts in a sensational manner so as to arouse a quick intense emotional reaction
Now I seriously doubt that the intent of the Bible was to cause sexual excitement although there could be some sick perverts out there who might take it that way. I would be very careful my friend in the way that you describe the Holy Bible, to me calling it pornography is pretty much blasphemy. But you should know that being “schooled in theology”
Again you say “Read your Bible. Everything I listed is in there in the form of a story. That is what movies are, right? Stories made into pictures that move. Isn’t that all porn is?” Nope again porn is by definition “the depiction of erotic behavior (as in pictures or writing) intended to cause sexual excitement” again I don’t think this applies to the Bible or self help books for that matter.
Using your own words “Stick to my point that the Bible has themes in stories that would put the best pornographic movie to shame!” Again it would take a sick and perverted mind to come to that conclusion.
“This is a discussion about whether or not a person that lives in sin be a Christian”
Again we are all sinners but the difference with Christian are that we feel conviction for our sins and seek forgiveness and repent. So yes the Christians that display all the bad behavior you listed should repent and ask for forgiveness. Not keep living in the Sin.
Again since you are so “schooled in theology” you should know what 1Corinthians 5:11-13 says about judging fellow brothers or sisters. “But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat. 12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked man from among you.”
So clearly we are told not to judge those outside the Church but the ones who call them selves Christians ( Brothers or sisters) and I quote is “sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler” should be judged and rebuked. That by the way includes Christians who work in the porn business. Yes I am sure everyone also has a secret that they don’t want the church to know. Just by hearing your perverted view of the Bible I can sense that you may have a few skeletons in your closet that you wouldn’t want people to know about. But God knows all. So if Christianity is so flawed and full of hypocrites what is the answer? Do we just adopt an anything goes attitude? Do we follow Jesus? Or do we just listen to what Oprah or Tom Cruise has to say? I think I will follow Joshua 24:15 “But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” It’s all in the Book that was inspired by the word of God! Enough said.
I would like to add to my list.…erotic dancing and religious sexual practices. Have you read the Bible, I mean really read the Bible? Have you ever read the description of a woman’s breasts and vagina in Song of Solomon? Have you ever read the intimate sex acts found on those pages? If that isn’t soft porn by YOUR definition you are blind my friend. But then again most Christians do have a hard time swallowing…...the TRUTH that is. I clarified that because I don’t want anyone to misunderstand my words as pornographic because I am not trying to make light of the subject matter but there is an element of entertainment here.
Thank you for the Bible lesson. I’m sure it is a great read for some people. But you already answered Margo’s question with the Bible’s own words for me. “Can you be a porn star, mom and a Christian? Your answer, with the Bible, is YES. Although she (the Christian) will be living in sin at the time due to her sinful behavior. You could have just said yes with a joke and it would have been fun to read. Oh and leave Tom Cruise out of this. Prescription drug use is another blog.
Christianity isn’t flawed, people are. You, me, everyone. Although I may seem by my writings to be a pagan, I do know about the straight and narrow. I totally get what you are saying and I commend you for sharing your faith and siding with me that you can be living in sin and still live under God’s grace and that sanctification is what we are focusing on not a person’s salvation. Over an extended period of time, we can evaluate whether her faith had any works.

From your comments, I'm unable to tell if you are male or female because of the mixed analogies. Could it be that you have been in one of those classes?
