In 1968, the Beatles wrote a song entitled “Revolution”…which is the theme of my blog today. I believe it’s time for a good, old-fashioned revolution, or at the very least, a mediocre civil war between the conformists and non-conformists! You see, I’m a non-conformist…I refuse to go along with the crowd…a rebel per se! I march to the beat of my own drum. If I were born in a different time period, I would have been riding astride when all the other ladies were riding side-saddle. I would have been on the battlefield reloading muskets, wearing britches, while all the other ladies were taking care of the wounded.
We have a president in office who has touted ‘change, change, change’ ever since he became the democratic nominee for president. However, his big plans for change have done nothing but flop like a fish on dry land. Everyone wants change, but we want change for the good of all, not for the good of those who choose to avoid work, moral ethics and abuse my tax dollars.
I’m ready for a change…in the White House, in Congress, in the Senate. No, I didn’t vote for Obama. I wasn’t happy with Bush either, but he wasn’t trying to shove healthcare reform down my throat or trying to make me swallow loads of garbage, all the while telling me it was for my own good. Sure, he put it out there, but at least I had a choice as to whether or not I was going to accept it. Currently, we are not being given a choice! I don’t think it should be left up to Obama to decide about MY healthcare. I think the citizens of these United States should have the say so, an opportunity to vote and decide on their own. You know why he won’t put it to an American vote? Because Obama knows it will never pass if the citizens are given a choice. I am opposed to healthcare reform. What will it take to get this person to understand his methods and ideas are flawed? He thinks the United States of America would function better under a socialist dynasty. One cannot replace capitalism with socialism and expect Americans to lie on their backs and accept it. Read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Let me know what you think.
So, Mr. President, if you want to push something on American citizens that they don't want and are unwilling to accept, you better expect and be ready for the ensuing revolution! Vive la Révolution!

Now that I have everyone’s attention let me start this tirade by saying I looked up the definition so we can have a discussion from a point of reference; "Socialism", Oxford English Dictionary.
There are two distinct schools of thought:
The first is the Social Democrats; this theory proposes a mixed economy with the nationalization of key industry. Social Democrats promote private ownership of property, capital, and enterprise. What appears to be the differentiators in those nations where Social Democrats hold or have held sway is market-regulation and tax funded welfare programs.
The other school of thought is the Libertarian Socialist; this theory rejects all forms of state control and private ownership reverting instead to collective ownership of production and the economy. Decision-making is done via councils or workplace democracy. The Libertarian Socialist movement is more closely aligned to the original Utopian view of Socialism, which espoused communal ownership and no private property or enterprise.
Now, having established the forms of Socialism as both economic and social theories it is time to examine why I believe Jesus was the first Socialist. I will let Steve’s and Chris’ Bible do the talking first and then let everyone chime in. I have to go sharpen my horns so I will give you guys the chance at first blood so I will for the rest of this post just say “It is written!” Look them up yourself.
I am going to start with Mark Chapter 10:21-25, Matthew 25:31-46and finally, the teachings continued after the death of Jesus, the best example of the Utopian Socialism being the following by James found in 2:1-7.
Is the current President, Barack Obama truly a Socialist? I think the answer is that he is not any more a Socialist than any other American is, we simply have a difficult time recognizing ourselves or our economy for what it truly is. The fact is the current economic system has some aspects of Socialism including government regulation of certain industries, provisioning of health insurance for the elderly (Medicare), provisioning of care for the poor at a state level (Welfare, WIC, and Medicaid), taxing authority supported police, fire, and aid (911) are all examples of socialist programs. Each is generally found in countries with mixed economies, that is Socialism and Capitalism are both at work. Thus Barack Obama is not a Socialist he is not even very far left of the middle; he is a Democrat and that is all he is.
Social programs are good but taking by force the hard work of individuals and spreading it out according to the whim of a few federal bureaucrats is not. Programs are fine unless the agenda goes against the first "socialist" Jesus.
Sorry I didn't have much humor this time. I will have some, I’m sure, with the responses I get. I can hear the Bibles turning. I choose to meet the boys on their turf before I pull them into mine.
I am a Socialist, a Christian and I have been told I’m not a bad lover either. When I grow up I want to write children books. Are you a Socialist Margo? If you look a the word revolution you will notice the word LOVE in the middle. “There’s no greater love than”…. Well, I’m just saying Margo, revolution starts in the heart.
Steve, I agree we do need to get back to trusting our Father and putting him first in our lives. Our Country is definitely on the moral decline and we are in trouble.
G.I.C, I am glad to hear you’re getting affirmation of your love making skills. Margo and her husband led a great couple’s book study in our Church and that was one of the top sex needs for men and women. I also agree with your view of Jesus being a Socialist. You make good arguments with the scriptures you have provided and I will admit most Christians struggle with "One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor”
Now you hit the nail on head with “Social programs are good but taking by force the hard work of individuals and spreading it out according to the whim of a few federal bureaucrats is not” I think that is the biggest problem with the Socialistic ideal that Obama has. I honestly believe it’s in our flesh to want something for nothing. I also understand there are those who can not take care of them selves and I support the government creating programs to take care of them but there is also a vast majority of people who are just plain lazy.
The Bible has a great deal to say about laziness. Proverbs is especially filled with wisdom concerning laziness and warnings to the lazy person. Proverbs tells us that a lazy person hates work: “The sluggard's craving will be the death of him, because his hands refuse to work” (21:25); he loves sleep: “As a door turns on its hinges, so a sluggard turns on his bed” (26:14); he gives excuses: “The sluggard says, ‘There is a lion in the road, a fierce lion roaming the streets’” (26:13); he wastes time and energy: “He who is slothful in his work is a brother to him who is a great waster” (18:9 KJV); he believes he is wise, but is a fool: “The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who answer discreetly” (26:16).
Proverbs also tells us the end in store for the lazy: A lazy person becomes a servant (or debtor): “Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor” (12:24); his future is bleak: “A sluggard does not plow in season; so at harvest time he looks but finds nothing” (20:4); he may come to poverty: “The soul of the lazy man desires and has nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made rich” (13:4 KJV).
Now here is another question. Can a lazy person still be a Christian? I think it would be kind of hard to pull off. I am sure many have tried and I have actually seen some pretty lazy folks who claimed to be saved so I don’t know. Good post and comments everyone!

I think I fully understood how Margo feels about Socialism but like most people, do you and Margo fully understand socialism and Christianity? I figured someone that boasted about being a “Devil’s advocate” would enjoy the challenge of bagging the big buck. I even flashed my horns for you so all could see the trophy that you could mount. I understand what being the Devil’s advocate is like. I wrote a column for a political website for 6 months twice a week. We averaged over a thousand hits a day. I sharpened my tongue and thoughts on posters like your self. I always enjoyed friendly debate. It takes a special person to dig deeper than them selves to find new thought.
Thank you for getting the ending of my post. My tongue and check ending with the Rolling Stones “Sympathy for the Devil” was irony since it came out in 1968 as did the Beatles song entitled “Revolution” as Margo pointed out.
That is the theme this blog started with right? “rEVOLution” which really is just backward love. Twistedness unleashed in passionate ramblings until someone gets hurt or crucified. Let me nail my pain in your writer’s hand. There is no “internal dialogue” that is amenable unless it is conviction. In a revolution all should be discussed openly and with fervent debate. May be you do not want to look into the darkened glass of debate for fear of seeing something within your self that screams back at you.
Continue to write about comic book heroes, Hanna Montana and Civil War reenactments and enjoy their thrilling comments from your readers but stop calling your self a Devil’s advocate. I don’t think that darkness is within you. I’m just saying I don’t think your heart is in it. LOL Irony isn’t it. Revolution starts in the heart, the very place sin resides. Debate isn’t about winning Edward it’s about the ideas that come out of it that turns revolution into rebellion. Revolution is the thoughts that move from “I will exalt myself above the throne” to open rebellion that screams “CRUSIFY HIM!”
You say you do not speak the language of Idealism, Romanticism, and the like. I think that’s just a copout but that’s your choice. I just figured a woman that speaks as Margo does enjoys very engaging pillow talk before she goes to sleep. She strikes me as needing a challenge. I’m sure you have other talents. LOL I hope that isn’t to close to the gutter for you or are you the jealous type that will scream through your words at me about being to flirty with a woman I don’t know and uses an alias.
Just so there is no confusion, the “see you on the floor” comment was a tag ending I used in my column I wrote. It symbolized the gravity of the subject matter always pulled everyone to a single point….the floor. If you took it as a sexual comment toward Margo it was not intended at all that way. I’m just saying she would be seduced with more gentle words than that if I was into her. I’m afraid I might be a little to old for her. You see I’ve been around a long time. I remember 1968. I was there when Martin died and Warhol was shot. I was one of the voices that screamed who is killing the Kennedy’s and understood the importance of the Phoenix Program. I remember writing the Humanae Vitae and telling the Pope “this is good stuff”. I pulled the triggers at La Plaza de las Tres Culturas in Mexico. I was the hand of black power and the finger of George C. Wallace. I spoke with the Elvis Presley and the Zodiac Killer. I held the Bible as the crew from Apollo 8 read from the Genesis. I was, I am and I still am all about revolution. I was just offering for you to be one of my disciple Edward don’t take anything I say personaly.
