Scissors! Really?

Will someone please explain to me why it is such a big deal that Vanessa Hudgens knew how to use a pair of scissors???  Is knowing how to  use a pair of scissors to alter your own clothing that much of a phenomenon in Hollywood??   Heck, we regular everyday people have been doing that for ages!!  I learned how to use scissors in kindergarten and by 2nd grade, was altering my clothing with said scissors.  No one came to interview me about my fashion sense nor did they dub me a fashion-savvy starlet.  The only thing I received for my efforts was a spanking!!

In 4th grade I used scissors to alter my haircut. Fail.

Poor Joseph. Too bad you had to do that yourself. I was fortunate enough to have my mother do it for me -- my bangs usually looked like a bar graph by the time she finished trimming them up!

Monica, the Czar

I hope most of you are keeping up.  The Real Magnolias stories are not going to be consecutive posts as I do have other things going on in my life that I feel the need to write about.  Not alot mind you, but other things nonetheless.  :-) In the previous post, I mentioned Monica, the Czar.  Monica had a nasty habit of being the mom and trying to keep the rest of us from ever having any fun.  Thank goodness she was never successful!  However, one thing she was quite successful at was making new friends.  I use this term loosely as it was usually people she would pass on the street.  Monica felt it was her place to not only be the Czar in our lives, but also in lives of strangers.  For Monica never met a person she didn't take the opportunity to talk to.  When she would see someone that she thought she would be able to strike up a conversation with, she would stop them to talk.  Said conversation went something like this: Monica, ...

Can you be a mom, a Christian AND a porn star?

While driving into work this morning, the radio station to which I frequently listen, held a discussion on whether or not a porn star could be a good mom. Some of the morning crew felt that you could not be a good mom, as you get caught up in a pornography lifestyle, which in turn, affects all other areas of your life. Some of the others felt you could participate in pornographic activities and be a good mom. A girl called in who stated that she was 24 years old, had 4 children and had recently become an internet “porn star” and had plans to broaden her horizons (to DVDs I suppose). She said she was a Christian and felt she was a good mom. I was a bit dumbfounded to say the least. I believe God is clear in His Word about being involved in promiscuous and sexual acts outside of marriage and what the consequences of those actions will be.
