Snow in Dixie....Again

Who knew that the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011 would find the south enveloped in snow!!  North Alabama experienced the first white Christmas in quite a few years and we figured that would be the end of it.  However, once again, we are gearing up for snow here in the south, which means frantic visits to the local grocer for bread and milk.  I don't understand the bread and milk thing.  Water is free.  And I would rather have something tastier than a PB&J, even if I have to roast wieners over the fire pit outside.  A tasty hot dog beats a plain PB&J any day of the week!  Our trip to the store includes the fixings for chili cheese dogs!  And lots of Coke and Mt. Dew.  Gotta have that sugar high to play out in the snow!  And don't forget the ingredients for snow ice cream!  YUM!!

The Sunday and Monday prediction is for 6-10 inches of the white powder.  While it may only snow 1-2 inches, in south-speak that is 1-2 feet of the white stuff covering the ground, as well as alot of dirt covered snowmen!!  We'll see what happens tomorrow!

I'm just sayin',

I like that picture. I've got a blonde daughter and that would keep her busy for a long time!

Usually when they are forecasting this far out it's not as bad as they think it's going to be - hope that's the case this time! I like the snow but hate the ice/no power/roads closed/etc. Pretty picture!

The Future of Farm Town

If you are an active member of Facebook, you are more than likely familiar with, on an intimate basis, a game called Farm Town. Farm Town is a virtual farm. You plow your land, plant your crops and reap the rewards (coins) of selling those crops at harvest time. You even have the ability to "prostitute" yourself in the village market by offering to harvest other farmers' crops. You can sell your farm for larger farms, purchase silos, waterwells, logs, barrels, pigs, chickens, roosters, goats....you get the picture. You beg your "farming" friends to send you gifts of animals and trees so that you will not have to make these expensive purchases yourself. After all, you are saving your coins so that you can buy that farming mansion and pond you've been lusting after on the neighboring farm. However, the future of Farm Town may be compromised. My son called earlier to let me know Facebook had a new virtual farm game called Farm Ville. He's at level ...

Revolution!

In 1968, the Beatles wrote a song entitled “Revolution”…which is the theme of my blog today. I believe it’s time for a good, old-fashioned revolution, or at the very least, a mediocre civil war between the conformists and non-conformists! You see, I’m a non-conformist…I refuse to go along with the crowd…a rebel per se! I march to the beat of my own drum. If I were born in a different time period, I would have been riding astride when all the other ladies were riding side-saddle. I would have been on the battlefield reloading muskets, wearing britches, while all the other ladies were taking care of the wounded. We have a president in office who has touted ‘change, change, change’ ever since he became the democratic nominee for president. However, his big plans for change have done nothing but flop like a fish on dry land. Everyone wants change, but we want change for the good of all, not for the good of those who choose to avoid work, moral ethics and abuse my tax dollars. I’m ready for...

21st Century Technology

Sometimes, living in the 21st Century, isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Sure, electronic technology is great. But have you ever sat down and pondered exactly what has been laid to the wayside by electronic technology? Letter writing – I can send you an e-mail, any time night or day, but it doesn’t seem as personal as sitting down and writing my thoughts to a friend or loved one, in my own hand-writing. It takes a little more time, but it is well worth the effort. Christmas, birthday, get well cards, etc. – When was the last time you actually mailed a birthday card, Christmas card, get well card or “thinking about you today” card? I mailed cards this past Christmas and will hold tight to this tradition for as long as I am able. A personalized electronic card is nice as is an e-mail full of well-wishes for the holiday and New Year, but again, there is something quite special about receiving that personalized card in the mail. And don’t you just love finding things in your mailbox t...
